I love my dog like a child but the most disgusting smell to me is canine urine. We moved into a new house and he felt like he had to mark everything including an expensive sofa and area rugs we’d had in our old house. We had them professionally cleaned and purchased the top of the line upholstery and carpet cleaner to have ready when he had an incident. Those cleaners don’t really remove all traces and he and other 4 legged visitors to our home seemed to hone right in on a couple of spots and remark them. We tried Rocko and Roxy and the other Orange cleaner that seem to work but then six months later he’d have an episode. I finally replaced two very expensive rugs because I started having a sensory association with the fragrance of those cleaners and dog p… I saw a review that this cleaner being enzymatic would work on dog urine and break it down instead of mask it. I ordered some to have on hand.Fortunately we didn’t have an episode for a year and a half until we had out of town guests who brought their dog. Our little Prince who thinks he’s the king of the castle wasn’t the most gracious host because of all the attention the visiting dog was getting. On the second to last day of the visit he unfortunately got put in time out in the master bedroom where he could lay on the bed, watch TV and play with his toys. He seemed content but not until the day after did we realize he’d taken out his frustration on my favorite rug. He’d doubled down in one spot and marked another as well. It was a holiday weekend and I couldn’t get anyone out to clean the rug. I remembered purchasing this product and decided to give it a try. It was either this or throw a very expensive rug away. I dabbed the urine with paper towels and then an old towel removing as much as I could. I then poured a thin layer of Oil Eater and let it sit a few minutes. The smell with the urine wasn’t pleasant but it wasn’t offensive. My primary goal was to remove what I could until I could get the rug professionally cleaned. I rubbed the cleaner lightly with a cloth on the spot and also on the underside of the rug. I then completely rinsed the product out and it had a bit of an industrial cleaning smell but it wasn’t over powering. I dried it with a hair dryer and the smell completely went away. No scent of urine and no strong smell from the cleaner. I let it dry completely overnight and cleaned the spots again for good measure this time completely drying them. The rugs looked great. The fibers weren’t damaged and there was no color running or fading. Eight months later the dog has never remarked the areas. The reason I’m just now thinking about it is our little Prince is getting older and had an honest accident in his room over night. While the rug in his room isn’t as expensive, it is a nice rug and goes with the decor so I definitely wanted to save it. It’s a much brighter color than the other rug I had cleaned. I got out the trusty Oil Eater, did my thing and now it looks as good as new with no over powering smell left behind. Just clean! When I came to the site to reorder I decided to do a review. I wish I’d known about this stuff before we spent thousands on professional cleaning, our own machine, other products and then replacing expensive rugs. It’s certainly worth a try!
